We are delighted to have been awarded a 2017 Top Workplaces honor by The Austin American-Statesman. This is the fourth time in five years that we’ve made this list, and it’s one of our most important honors. The Top Workplaces lists are based solely on the results of an employee feedback survey administered by Energage, LLC. Several aspects of workplace culture were measured, including Alignment, Execution, and Connection.

“The Top Workplaces award is not a popularity contest. And oftentimes, people assume it’s all about fancy perks and benefits.” says Doug Claffey, CEO of Energage. “But to be a Top Workplace, organizations must meet our strict standards for organizational health. And who better to ask about work life than the people who live the culture every day—the employees. Time and time again, our research has proven that what’s most important to them is a strong belief in where the organization is headed, how it’s going to get there, and the feeling that everyone is in it together. Without this sense of connection, an organization doesn’t have a shot at being named a Top Workplace.”

We couldn’t agree more! One of the things we’re proudest of is our company culture, because we created it very deliberately from the ground up. We selected our values, and talk about them every day. We also conduct an annual employee survey that’s completely independent of the Top Workplaces survey, to ensure that everyone’s concerns and ideas are heard and understood.

As Claffey says, perks aren’t what makes a company a Top Workplace: culture is. (Though our perks aren’t bad, either.) Our CEO, Barbara Cavness, spoke about this very point just last week at the Texas Conference for Women. Her session, “Creating Your Company’s Culture,” echoes many of the concepts behind the Top Workplaces list:
